ACC-HAVEN Violence Prevention Workshop
In partnership with HAVEN, ACC is hosting a Violence Prevention Workshop on Friday, January 23 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at its Youth Recreation and Leadership Center in Detroit. HAVEN, a place where people can go to be safe, get help and join programs to assist them in living their lives without violence, hurting, or abuse, and the Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), the largest community based, human service organization assisting the Middle Eastern communities in the U.S., are working together to provide you help. ACC-DHS Cultural Diversity Workshop
ACC's Cultural Tapestry Program is providing a Cultural Diversity Workshop for the staff at the Sterling Heights Department of Human Service (DHS) District Office. The presentation will cover cultural customs and traditions along with recent immigration issues and topics. Reflected in the various activities offered to students, government agencies, and the community at large, ACC's Cultural Tapestry Program is a creative program that promotes cultural appreciation and tolerance of the Arab and Chaldean culture. Health Fair: Spring into Health!
ACC in collaboration with the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion Mobile Care Program is offering free on-site health and HIV screenings at the ACC Youth Center, located at 62 W Seven Mile Road in Detroit. Trained outreach professionals will provide HIV testing and counseling, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and cholesterol checks, and hepatitis C testing. On-board laboratory and examination rooms will be provided for privacy. For further information contact ACC at 313-366-0252.

Health Fair: Healthy Steps Make Healthy Communities
ACC and St. Mark Coptic Church invite you to attend a health fair at St. Mark in Troy. Our goal is to educate and enhance the health of the community by offering health screenings, blood tests, risk assessment and counseling, diabetic foot exams, bone density testing, free nicotine patches, health information and referrals, and materials for Medicaid or other assistance programs. ACC 30th Annual Civic and Humanitarian Awards Gala
Every year, the ACC sets the stage for a unique and prestigious event to honor extraordinary individuals who are visionaries in their respective areas of work. The annual gala serves as ACC's major fundraising event. This year's gala will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

ACC Hamtramck Office Grand Opening
ACC will hold a grand opening ceremony and reception in honor of its new Hamtramck Center Monday, November 30 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at 9019 Jos Campau in Hamtramck. This relocation is a result of the growing demand for services. The Hamtramck Center is a multifaceted facility that is available to all community residents. It currently houses a wide range of programs and services such as SEMCA Job Education and Training, Women Infant and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, youth programs and services, DHS social services, and referrals in addition to others. ACC Hamtramck Office Relocates to New Building - 9019 Jos Campau
Community leaders, funders and friends came together to celebrate the new facility. Joined by Mayor Karen Majewski of Hamtramck and other notable officials, ACC shared its goals of reaching out to the community through its many specialized programs and services. ACC's Hamtramck office offers programs and services such as Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Job Education and Training (JET) program, Women Infant and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, DHS services, youth and community programs, and referrals in addition to others.

ACC to Host US Swearing In Ceremony
The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security-Office of Citizenship and Immigration will host an official U.S. Citizenship Swearing-In Ceremony on Friday, December 18th, 10:00 a.m. at St. George's Cultural Center in Troy. Nearly 300 individuals will take an oath that will officially make them citizens of the United States of America.

President of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to address ACC
On Monday, March 8th at 4:00 p.m. ACC will host Mr. Daniel Loepp, President and CEO for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, at the joint meeting of its Board of Directors and Advisory Board. The board meeting is to be held at ACC's Youth Recreation and Leadership Center, located at 62 W. Seven Mile Road, in Detroit. Twice a year ACC hosts a joint meeting of the boards where an individual who is a leader in their respective area of work is invited to present on current issues.

ACC-JET Literacy Project Kick Off
On March 9th, the American Arab and Chaldean Council’s (ACC) JET (Jobs, Education and Training) Program will partner with the Detroit Public Library (main branch) in a much needed math and literacy tutorial project. This cutting-edge collaboration is aimed to improve basic literacy and math skills for welfare recipients who have scored low on mandatory TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) testing. Statistically, welfare recipients with low education skills stay on welfare the longest; those with stronger education skills become self-sufficient more quickly.

ACC - Hamtramck Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking
ACC's SEMCA Substance Abuse Prevention Program, in partnership with Global Education Excellence (GEE) and Students Against Alcohol Drugs And Violence (SAADV), will host a Hamtramck Community Town Hall Meeting at 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Bridge Academy, 9600 Buffalo Street. This event is part of a national effort to increase understanding and awareness of underage drinking and its consequences, and to encourage individuals, families, and communities to address the problem.

Mayor Bing - Detroit Town Hall Meeting at ACC
ACC will host a City of Detroit Town Hall Meeting with Mayor Dave Bing at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Bing, key staff, and community leaders will discuss the impact and importance of the 2010 Census and their plans for economic development in the City of Detroit. The meeting will be held in the gymnasium at ACC's Youth Recreation and Leadership Center, located at 62 W. Seven Mile Road, in Detroit. This Town Hall Meeting will provide a forum for a meaningful exchange of ideas and solicit the continued support of the City of Detroit as we join hands in making this area one of which we can all be proud. The meeting will close with questions from the audience. Detroit residence and business owners are invited and encouraged to attend this important community meeting.

US Census Road Tour at ACC Youth Center - 11am - 2pm
The 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour consists of 13 vehicles visiting communities across the nation from January to April 2010. ACC's Youth Recreation and Leadership Center (62 W. Seven Mile Road, Detroit) has been chosen to serve as one of the stops on the tour.
