ACC Receives Grant for Artisan Center

Detroit, MI - September 1, 2006 Comerica Charitable Foundation awarded a grant of $100,000 over two years to the Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) to support the Artisan Center and Adult Learning Project, Phase III of ACC’s Community and Neighborhood Development Initiative (CNDI). The planned center will be located adjacent to the soon to be constructed pocket park on Seven Mile Rd, immediately east of ACC Detroit Headquarters and directly across the street from the recently completed ACC Youth Center.

Once completed, the center will house artists’ workspaces, display area and a middle-eastern themed café all on the first floor. The second floor will accommodate an adult-learning center where newly arrived immigrants can learn English as a second language in addition to cultural, financial literacy and other self-help programs that will be offered to clients with the aim of having them armed with basic knowledge to help them find meaningful employment opportunities. For more information on ACC’s economic development initiative, please call 313-893-5269.
