ACC's Fifth Annual Golf Outing on June 6 to support academic
scholarships
Detroit, MI
- May 29, 2007 The Arab American & Chaldean
Council (ACC) will host the Fifth Annual Golf Outing & Scholarship
Awards Dinner, benefiting the ACC Scholarship Awards Program and Youth Center
at West Bloomfield's Shenandoah Country
Club, located at 5600 Walnut
Lake Road.
Registration
is at 10 a.m. and golfers are set to tee off 11:30 a.m. followed by
cocktails and the awards dinner, where graduates will receive scholarships.
ACC hopes to ensure the academic success of the deserving students.
Scholarships help attract and retain intelligent and capable, but
financially disadvantaged students. Many students may find it difficult to
continue their education following high school graduation. It's not the
good grades they lack, but money. Who knew that a game of golf would be
beneficial for college-bound high school graduates?
"Proceeds
from the golf outing will provide scholarships to graduating high school
seniors who deserve an opportunity to pursue a higher education," said
Brenda L. Schneider, ACC board member and event co-chair, who is first vice
president and director of Business and Development Services for Comerica
Bank. "Now is the time to show deserving youth how much we care about
their future success, so please join us as we strive to make a positive
difference in their lives."
In
the last 10 years Michigan's
university tuition rates has risen by more than 67 percent, while state
funding has risen by about 12 percent, according to the Senate Fiscal
Agency. With an ongoing budget problem and stagnant economy, the state has
cut public university funding by about $250 million over the last four
years. Because of the budget cut and increased tuition rates, financing a
diploma will be a challenge and the option of loans may land many thousands
of dollars in debt.
"It
has been said before, 'our youth is the future' and your sponsorship or
generous gift to the ACC Golf Outing and Scholarship Program will keep
giving back to our communities for generations to come," said Conrad
Schwartz, director of asset management and worldwide real estate for
General Motors and event co- chair.
